The translucent tracing paper gently encasing the vibrant colors and rough brushstrokes of thickly impastoed acrylic paint deeply captivates the viewer’s gaze. A stone and a mass of paint, placed on a wooden block, are covered by the wrinkled paper. While their materiality is concealed, the torrent of colors visible through the translucent surface exudes a powerful presence. Through this light-transmitting thin membrane, one senses the undeniable ‘being’ of what is contained within, yet its contours shimmer ambiguously, seemingly questioning the delicate relationship between surface and depth, the hidden and the revealed. This combination of disparate materials is presumed to create visual depth and multifaceted meanings within the work.
